2019 HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors Elects Officers

HOSA, Inc. announces the election of its 2019 Board officers which includes two alumni members and the state advisor for HOSA’s largest chartered association.  The HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors conducted its annual election on Saturday, January 12 and elected Janet Villarreal (TX State Advisor), 2019 Chairman; Jason Huff (Alumnus and Industry Representative), Chair-Elect; and Dana Stringer (Alumnus and AL State Advisor), Board Secretary.

Janet Villarreal, Texas HOSA State Advisor, has been serving HOSA since 1994. She began as a local chapter advisor at United South and United North High Schools and, in 2006, became the State Advisor of Texas HOSA, where she continues to lead the country’s largest HOSA state association with more than 35,000 HOSA members. Previously, Janet was a registered radiologic technologist at Doctor’s Hospital in Laredo, Texas.
 
Chair-Elect of the HOSA, Inc. Board is Jason Huff, MSN, RN, FNKR, Vice President of Transplant Services at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Jason began his HOSA career in 1992 as a local HOSA member before serving as the Indiana HOSA President (1993-1995) and Secondary Member-At-Large on HOSA's National Executive Council (1994-1995).  Jason has remained an active HOSA alumnus at the national level as well as providing leadership to Indiana and Ohio HOSA.  
 
Dana Stringer,  Alabama HOSA State Advisor, was elected as Secretary.  Dana has served a nearly every level of the organization beginning her HOSA career as a local chapter member in the 1980s before serving as a HOSA local chapter advisor (2000-2014) until her the current role as theAlabama HOSA State Advisor.  As the Alabama HOSAState Advisor and Education Specialist for Health Science, Dana has been instrumental in promoting health science education in the classroom and has grown Alabama's state membership by 97.8%
 
Peg Enslen, RN, Ed.D., Delaware HOSA State Advisor, will serve as the Immediate Past Chairman, HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors. Peg has been the First State’s HOSA State Advisor since 2011 as well as the Education Associate for the Health Sciences Programs of Study for the Delaware Department of Education.  Dr. Enslen also serves as Adjunct Faculty in the College of Health Professions at the Wilmington University in New Castle. 
 
"The HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors approved the most expansive and forward-thinking plan of work in the 43-year history of HOSA-Future Health Professionals," explained Executive Director, Jim Koeninger.  Among the motions approved included:
 
  • HOSA TALL–Online training for new advisors at the local level.  The two-year local advisor development program will be launched in 2019-2020.  A Learning Management System (LMS) will be used to deliver this initial online training for the future.
     
  • Standards of Excellence for HOSA Chartered Associations–approved the annual process for Chartered Associations to submit standards documentation to the review task force that will award "Gold, Silver, or Bronze Standards of Excellence" plaques at the State Advisors Management (SAM) Conference in September.  Gold Standards of Excellence Associations will receive additional recognition on the HOSA website.  HOSA is evolving into a standards-based organization. 
     
  • Senior Director for Advancement — Kimberly Spivey, was employed to lead an advancement program for HOSA-Future Health Professionals seeking funding from private foundations and corporations to support projects and events.  Year one goal is $500,000.
     
  • Capital Campaign and Building Fund — approved to be formed and directed to seek funding from the Alumni Division. The purpose of the Building Fund is to purchase or build a headquarters for the International Center for HOSA-Future Health Professionals.  The intent is to schedule the opening of the new headquarters in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary during the 2026 International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas.
