  1. Public Health teams present over Zoom.
  2. For a seamless event experience, competitors should download Zoom prior to VILC to the device they plan to use for competition.
  3. Competitors should change / setup the “Display Name” in the Zoom account they plan to use so that it matches the name used for conference registration. Using the same name will ensure event staff recognizes you, and will admit you seamlessly into the live event.
  4. 10 minutes before their scheduled appointment time, teams should click on the Zoom meeting link from the posting list and be prepared to present to a panel of judges.
  5. There is no “setup and teardown” time included since competition takes place over zoom. When competitors login to Zoom, they should be ready to go. Similarly, when there is no teardown time – when competitors logoff Zoom they will take down materials as needed on their own time.
  6. Note: 5.4.21  Clarification that in team events, team members can be physically in the same location (Covid safe of course!), or may choose to login to Zoom from different locations. Either option is acceptable and will not effect judge scoring in any way.
  7. HOSA Competitive Event Staff will be on each Zoom link with competitors and judges, to help ensure everything runs smoothly.
  8. Most events will utilize a main zoom room where all competitors will test audio, ensure they are in the correct event, etc. Then, breakout rooms within Zoom will be used and each competitor will be placed in a breakout room to meet with judges.
  9. Each breakout room will also have an event Timer who will be responsible for notifying the competitor of time remaining.
  10. Video capability is required for this event over Zoom.
  11. If competitors have trouble connecting to the Zoom Meeting, call the CE Help Line immediately at 888-231-6403.
  12. If a competitor gets logged off in the middle of the event for some reason, immediately try connecting to the Zoom link again to re-enter. If that doesn’t work, keep trying and call the CE Help Line immediately at 888-231-6403.
  13. NEW as of 4.24.21 – Thanks to feedback from the CE Webinar, we will be allowing screen sharing during the Zoom appointments with judges, in certain events. We realize that some events have content that needs to be shared digitally by sharing the screen, as opposed to holding physical content up for viewing. The following events WILL be allowed to share content: Clinical Specialty, Public Health, Research Poster, Health Career Display (all divisions), Medical Innovation, Exploring Medical Innovation, Public Service Announcement, and Health Career Photography.

Events that only allow a “reference to” the portfolio, per the original event guidelines, will NOT be allowed to share screen content during the live events with judges: Health Education, Community Awareness, MRC Partnership, and Healthy Lifestyle. Competitors may say things like “as included on page 3 of my portfolio…”, but will not need to share their screen. Judges will have digital copies of the portfolio they can refer to as needed.

Thank you for providing the feedback so we could improve this process.
