“I just want them to know that I lived, I loved, I was here that I gave my all, did my best, brought someone some happiness, and left something that meant something in somebody’s life […] just because I was here.” – Beyoncé

Aaron Summerall found HOSA the way many members do: searching for connection and discovering something life-changing. A first-generation college student attending Roane State Community College, he proudly represents all students forging their own unique paths toward success. He believes leadership must serve forward, making space for others to rise.

What began as a childhood tradition of baking in the hills of Tennessee became a way to serve; through free desserts for healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and outreach in his local community.

From competing in nutrition to advocating for nutritional public health, Aaron’s journey reflects HOSA’s power to transform passion into purpose. Since then, that spirit of service has only grown. As a two-term state officer, in unison Aaron led initiatives to amplify member voices, encourage belonging, and support the next generation of changemakers.

Now serving as Central Region Vice President, Aaron brings that same energy to the international stage: cheering on members backstage, dancing to the “Church Clap,” or helping a fellow changemaker believe in the power of their story. Aaron seeks connection in every space he steps into. A believer that healthcare is all-encompassing, he hopes to inspire the next generation of leaders to follow their path—wherever it begins—with heart, humility, and purpose.

One of his most meaningful traditions is recognizing a familiar face. A HOSA member he’s served or a friend reunited, Aaron never forgets a face or the story it holds.

From chatting with members in passing to celebrating our elevator-side competitive event dreamers, from encouraging nervous competitors to trust their preparation to witnessing chapters rise after just one visit, Aaron’s Philosophy on Servant leadership is rooted in remembering. In listening. In serving. In walking beside others as they discover their place in this organization.

As HOSA celebrates 50 years, Aaron is proud to lead together during this milestone year: honoring the past, serving the present, and helping shape a future where every HOSA member feels seen, heard, and empowered to be a True Champion of Change.
