2022 ILC Highlights

HOSA-Future Health Professionals enjoyed a return to the first in-person ILC since 2019 with 10,650 members, advisors, judges, and guests attending HOSA’s 45th Annual International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, June 22-25, 2022. HOSA was represented by 54 chartered associations including American Samoa, Canada, China, Korea, and Puerto Rico!

Special congratulations to everyone who made it to the stage at the ILC – an outstanding achievement!  2021-2022 was an amazing year and, together, all HOSA members Shattered Their Expectations!

ILC Highlights

The week was filled with excitement and opportunities for its members to come together to compete, learn, and share their HOSA experiences.  Conference highlights included:

  • Korea and Vermont HOSA receiving their HOSA charter
  • 84 health-related competitive events represented by 8,965 competitors
  • 116 educational workshops
  • 125 exhibitors
  • Be The Match, Donor Match Ceremony
  • Doctor Mike, Board Certified Family Medical Physician and Social Media Influencer, left HOSA members with two great quotes:  “You have to bring YOU to medicine” and “Think about what you are afraid to do and do that!”

  • Blood Assurance.  The inaugural blood drive with HOSA-Future Health Professionals at the ILC was a huge success with Blood Assurance receiving 347 units of blood, equivalent to saving 1,041 lives.

  • We Help Two.  We Help Two sold enough socks at HOSA’s ILC to provide two legs to amputees, Bernard and Peprah from Ghana.  Because of HOSA members, they now have hope for their futures!

ILC Led by Outstanding International Executive Council (2021-2022)

Passion, Empathy, Genuine, Service-Oriented, Visionary, Magnetic, and Earnest are words that were used to honor the 2021-2022 International Executive Council.   Yes, the International Executive Council led HOSA’s 45th Annual International Leadership Conference with passion, style, and excellence.  Congratulations on a great year.

HOSA-100 National Advisory Council Recognition

HOSA welcomed three new members to the HOSA-100 National Advisory Council:

  • Mallory Kirby Dufek, Acquisitions Editor, Goodheart-Willcox Publisher
  • NaShieka Knight, Director Workforce Transformation, Association of American Medical Colleges
  • Uf Tukel, Founder, Stay Dry Centers

Scholarships

HOSA’s Scholarship Program awarded $85,000 to 74 HOSA members in scholarships at the international level. Additionally, the U.S. Army presented 26 scholarships in the amount of 3,137,312 totaling 100 HOSA members receiving $3,222,312.  When these dollars are combined with the $3,002,700 awarded by chartered associations, HOSA awarded $6,225,012 in scholarships. Special thanks to the U.S. Army for their continued sponsorship of HOSA’s scholarship program.

Hall of Fame

As a part of HOSA’s Opening Session, five outstanding individuals were inducted in the HOSA Hall of Fame. The HOSA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals and companies who have rendered outstanding service to HOSA, health and biomedical science education, and the health industry.

This year’s Hall of Fame members included:

  • Local Member – Lauren Trygstad, Minnesota
  • State Advisor – Dr. Gene Napoliello, New Jersey (Posthumous)
  • Local Chapter Advisor – Alicia McCracken, Georgia
  • HOSA Alumnus – Shirley Xinyu Fu, China

During the annual HOSA Business Session, the voting delegates elected eight knowledgeable and eager HOSA leaders to serve on the Executive Council.

HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors

The HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors elected three new members to the HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors who will meet on Saturday, February 4, 2023, in Dallas, Texas:

  • Central Region – State Advisor: Summer Hagy (MN)
  • Central Region – Local Advisor: Amy Warner (OK)
  • HSE Supervisor/Teacher Educator Representative: Christina Patron (WI)

Honorary Life Membership

The 2022 Honorary Life memberships were awarded to Dana Stringer, AL State Advisor and 2021 HOSA, Inc. Board Chairman and Dr. William and Mrs. Joan Stearman.  Congratulations!

Competitive Events

This year 8,965 competitors competed in 84 competitive events demonstrating competencies developed through Health and Biomedical Science class instruction, technical training, and HOSA activities. HOSA congratulates all middle school, secondary and postsecondary/ collegiate winners in this year’s competitive events program.
