2019 International Leadership Conference in Review

 

HOSA-Future Health Professionals enjoyed our largest ever ILC with 11,520 members, advisors and guests attend the 42nd International Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, June 19-22, 2019.  HOSA was represented by 54 chartered associations including Canada, American Samoa, Puerto Rico and 32 members from China!

Special congratulations to everyone who made it to the stage at the ILC – an outstanding achievement!  2018-2019 was an amazing year and, together, all HOSA members represent the future of health — it will be exciting as we move Towards Tomorrow!

Highlights

The week was filled with excitement and opportunities for its members to come together to compete, learn and share their HOSA experiences.  Conference highlights included China receiving their charter, 71 health-related competitive events; 110 educational workshops; 74 exhibitors; the nation’s #1 doctor – The Surgeon General, VADM Jerome Adams, M.D., M.P.H.; and a keynote address from Steve L. Robbins, – his message on diversity, inclusion and the power of caring was very impactful for future health professionals.

ILC Led by Outstanding Executive Council (2018-2019)

— Passion, Empathy, Genuine, Service, Vision, Excite, Magnetic, Earnest — words that were used to honor the 2018-2019 Executive Council.  Other words that could be used to describe the 2018-2019 Executive Council are:  outstanding, exceptional, dynamic, and great.  Yes, the Executive Council led the 42nd Annual International Leadership Conference with passion, style and excellence.  Congratulations on a great year.

Board Chair Janet Villarreal can be proud of the 2019 ILC as the largest and one of the best yet.  She did an outstanding job leading all the meetings – most skillfully, efficiently and triumphantly run.

Scholarships

HOSA’s Scholarship Program awarded $82,500 to 71 HOSA members in scholarships at the international level. Additionally, the U.S. Army presented 27 scholarships in the amount of 3,274,883 totalling 98 HOSA members receiving $3,357,383.  When these dollars are combined with the $846,475 awarded by chartered associations, HOSA awarded $4,203,858 in scholarships. Special thanks to the U.S. Army for their continued sponsorship of HOSA’s scholarship program.

Hall of Fame

As a part of HOSA’s Opening Session, five outstanding individuals were inducted in the HOSA Hall of Fame. The HOSA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals and companies who have rendered outstanding service to HOSA, health and biomedical science education and the health industry.

This year’s Hall of Fame members included:

Competitive Events

This year 9,847 competitors competed in 71 competitive events demonstrating competencies developed through Health Science and Biomedical Science class instruction, technical training and HOSA activities. HOSA congratulates all middle school, secondary and postsecondary/ collegiate winners in this year’s competitive events program.
