WOCIP is the professional society of choice for Black and Latina women who currently work in or aspire to build a career in the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences industry. Our mission is to empower women of color to excel in their personal and professional development and to transform their pathway within the pharmaceutical industry.

This year WOCIP is proud to present the  “Career Connections Micro-Conference” for students of color.  “Career Connections” will occur on Saturday, November 13 in the WOCIP virtual platform in conjunction with WOCIP 5th Annual Conference.  College students of all levels are invited to participate in this free event that will include workshop sessions, access to the WOCIP virtual career floor to explore WOCIP sponsor companies and an essay/video contest.  The two (2) winners of the essay/video contest will receive an all-expense paid trip to the 5th Annual conference!

The society seeks innovative ideas that support our vision of clinical trial diversity and health equity. The Inaugural WOCIP Student Essay Contest is open to current undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral-level students in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) field.

Clinical trials are designed to answer specific research questions about medical therapies or products, and are essential to bringing innovative and life-changing therapies to our communities. Ensuring participation from a diverse group of clinical trial participants is important to enable adequate representation of the final product users, and to facilitate health equity.

In a short essay or video, describe 3 key steps that people in the community can take to improve access to clinical trials. Solutions can include any aspect of the community, including healthcare providers, social workers, academic faculty or students, community thought leaders, suppliers, etc.

Essays should be between 350 and 500 words in length, excluding title and references. Use of multimedia is encouraged, and any videos submitted should be no longer than 5 minutes.

The two (2) winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to the 5th Annual conference, Project H.E.R.- Honor, Empower and Rise, from November 11-14, 2021. The conference will feature virtual roundtables, curated workshops, corporate networking lounges, and special sessions dedicated to career connections with a focus on the value of coaching and mentoring, imposter syndrome, and overall health/wealth. VIP conference registrants will have additional networking opportunities, attend the president’s reception, as well as the Inaugural Legacy Maker Awards Gala.
