Jamal Hassan - Western Region Vice President

“I have a thousand wishes, each worth dying for. In my life, I’ve fulfilled many of my desires, yet I still crave more; with each step, I look for stairs to climb.” – Mirza Ghalib

At freshman orientation, Jamal was introduced to HOSA by a simple one-liner, “If you want to have a future in medicine, you will join HOSA.” Just like that he was sold, determined to follow the same path that the seniors before him had paved. His first two years came with limited success, never advancing beyond the State level at competitive events, so he instead opted to pursue leadership within HOSA. His junior year he was elected as an Area President and State Officer for Texas HOSA and served his term through his senior year.

Now, as the Western Region Vice President, Jamal seeks to bring the opportunity to pursue the same HOSA leadership that gave him such an incredible experience to as many HOSA members as possible! He plans to remain connected with regional and state officers in order to push them and their members to repay HOSA by serving the same organization that has given them so much. He hopes to leave inspiring the next generation of HOSA members to strive for excellence in whatever form that may come for them.

Outside of HOSA, Jamal loves to cook everywhere from the kitchen to the basketball court (Go Mavericks). Ask him anything about the NBA and he’ll love to strike up conversation. When he’s not busy he can be found eating, reading, listening to classic bollywood soundtracks or alt & indie rock or playing the newest video game. He is excited to be joining the University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘em) as a Neuroscience Major.

As a lover of poetry, Jamal lives by classics such as Rumi & Ghalib, holding dearly onto their ideology that nothing matters more in this world than living with and spreading love. Rumi says “Wherever you are, and whatever you do, be in love.” Jamal wholeheartedly believes that his time in HOSA has allowed him to spread this love and hopes to continue during his term on the IEC. So, if you see him make sure to say hello!
