As I prepare to transition from high school to college, I find myself reflecting on my past years and everything that has brought me to this point – a summation of my life experiences that have created the mosaic of my identity. One of the most significant parts of my journey has been my involvement with HOSA-Future Health Professionals, an opportunity that has been nothing short of transformational. Joining HOSA in 6th grade was one of the best decisions I ever made, as it has provided me with purpose, direction, and a community of like-minded individuals who share my passion for healthcare.
Through HOSA, I have had the opportunity to explore all facets of healthcare, including clinical practice, health science, health policy, and many other fields. I have attended conferences and competitions where I have learned from and competed against some of the brightest and most talented students from across the world. These experiences have broadened my scope of understanding regarding healthcare and have given me a better sense of the various paths I can take in my future career.
One of the most significant things that HOSA has done for me is to provide me with a sense of purpose. As a young student, I often felt lost and unsure about what I wanted to do with my life and how I wanted to continue my career. However, once I joined HOSA, I found that I had a clear vision that I aspired to execute. The immersion in health science that HOSA facilitated reinforced my drive to pursue a career in healthcare, and I had a community of people who supported and encouraged me along the way. This sense of purpose has been incredibly important to me, and it has helped me stay focused and motivated as I navigated through high school.
HOSA has also given me a sense of direction by exposing me to the various fields within healthcare. Before joining HOSA, I had a narrow understanding of what healthcare was and what it entailed. However, through my involvement with the organization, I have been able to explore the many different paths that exist within the field. I have learned about everything from clinical practice to healthcare policy, and this knowledge has given me a better understanding of the possibilities that exist within healthcare. As the current Eastern Region Vice President, I have had an opportunity to witness the different facets of healthcare firsthand by representing HOSA at several conferences. Through these engagements, I’ve been able to explore the realm of health policy, navigate the intricacies of health education, and enjoy several experiences!
Perhaps the most significant thing that HOSA has done for me is to provide me with a community of like-minded individuals. I have met so many incredible people through HOSA, many of whom I now consider my closest friends. These individuals share my passion for healthcare and have been a source of support and encouragement throughout my journey. They have challenged me to be a better student, a better leader, and a better person. I am incredibly grateful for the friendships I have formed through HOSA, and I know that these connections will continue to be important to me as I move on to college.
As I prepare to leave high school and move on to college, I am both excited and nervous about what the future holds. However, I know that my experiences with HOSA have prepared me well for the challenges that lie ahead. I am confident in my abilities as a student and as a future healthcare professional, and I know that the knowledge and skills I have gained through HOSA will serve me well in college and beyond.
Ultimately, my involvement with HOSA has been an incredibly significant part of my journey from 6th grade to my senior year of high school. The organization has been pivotal in my development as a person and leader, while also guiding me through many of the questions I faced. Through HOSA, I have been exposed to the many different paths that exist within healthcare, and I have gained a broad understanding of the field. I am grateful for the friendships I have formed through HOSA, and I know that these connections will continue to be important to me as I move on to college. As I transition to the next phase of my life, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, and I know that HOSA will continue to play a large role in my personality.
Best wishes,
