Janet Nelson - Director for New State Advisor Development

Janet joined the HOSA Headquarters Staff in June 2019 where she serves as the Director for New State Advisor Development.  Her duties include training all new HOSA State Advisors in “The HOSA Way” as she applies the skills, knowledge, and passion developed during her seven years as the Pennsylvania HOSA State Advisor. Her association with HOSA-Future Health Professionals spans almost four decades.  Her varied nursing background fostered the development of numerous future health care workers during her thirty year teaching experiences in Career and Technical Education (CTE).   During these years she served as the local HOSA Advisor, a member of the PENN (Pennsylvania) HOSA Competitive Events Task Force, and as Lieutenant and Chair on the HOSA National Competitive Events Leadership team.

HOSA was the common thread on the applications for the many awards and honors she received while in the classroom, including Outstanding Vocational Educator, Excellence in Education Honoree for eighteen years, USA Today Honorable Mention for Outstanding Educators, a Pennsylvania Nightingale Awards Finalist, and PENN HOSA Outstanding HOSA Advisor, secondary division.  In 2018 she was inducted into the HOSA Hall of Fame.

Janet graduated from the Lebanon County CTC Practical Nursing Program; Reading Area Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing; and Penn State University, CTE Program.

Janet loves traveling with her husband, Dennis; cooking; reading; volunteering at a free meal site; and spending time with her family, especially their three grandchildren, Jake, Carter and Camille, who Janet fondly refers to as “The icing on the cake of life.”
