2012 Washington Leadership Academy

HOSA State Officers Participated in the Fifth Annual Washington Leadership in Academy

The Washington Leadership Academy is a gathering of state leaders to build awareness for HOSA in Washington, D.C. with national and state leaders, provide networking opportunities with other state HOSA leaders and equip state officers with the skills necessary to better lead and advocate for HOSA in their home state.

Located in the nation’s capitol, The Washington Leadership Academy provided opportunities to experience leadership training, see historic Washington, D.C. and spend a day on Capitol Hill meeting with Congressional Representatives.

WLA began on September 15 and concluded on the 18th with a Talent Show. Approximately 150 delegates attended the four-day event. Lowell Doringo, Chair of the HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors, Paul Booden, Past Chair fo the HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors, Mark Burley, Past Chair fo the HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors and Jeff Koeninger, Director of Membership facilitated the training for the event. The training focused on three areas of self development, "Know Thy Self", "Know Thy Country", and "Know Thy Industry". Delegates were divided into teams for the leadership sessions.

The most memorable tours were the Monument Twilight Tour of D.C., the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown at the Arlington National Cemetery, National Museum of Health and Medicine and National Institute of Health.
