2015 Public Health Leadership Seminars

The Division of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps was recently moved from the Office of the Surgeon General to the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR).  This is most exciting for HOSA-Future Health Professionals as we now have the opportunity to be recognized by not only the Office of the U.S.

Lara Skaggs to Serve as HOSA, Inc. Board Chair

HOSA–Future Health Professionals met on January 10, 2015, and elected Lara Skaggs as Chair of the HOSA Inc. Board of Directors for 2015.
 
Lara brings commitment and experience with HOSA having been involved at the state and national levels.  Lara is serving the Board as the HSE Supervisor/Teacher Educator Representative. She also served as the Chair of the National HOSA Competitive Events Committee from 2006-2007. Ms. Skaggs is currently the Health Careers Education State Program Manager in Oklahoma.

HOSA Attends Army Strengthening America's Youth Meeting

HOSA is proud to partner with the Army. As part of that partnership, HOSA has been invited to be a part of the annual Army Strengthening America's Youth meeting. The meeting was held at Ft. Myers in Virginia and the topic was improving the educational development of today’s youth, especially in the critical fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Jane Shovlin, Chair, HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors represented HOSA at the meeting.

HOSA Member Wins $185,000 Scholarship!

The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists announced Chris Pollema, a HOSA member from Dakota Valley High School in South Dakota, as the winner of the $185,000 National Academy Medical School Scholarship Challenge. 
Chris’ topic was entitled “Using the Enzyme Choline Acetyltransferase to Either Prove or Disprove the Cholinergic Theory and Further Alzheimer’s Disease Research.”

2014 Washington Leadership Academy

The anticipation that developed months, weeks, and days before seemed to get longer and longer. The nation was prepared, prepared with state leaders that were ready to adventure onto the next step of their term, Washington Leadership Academy. As the round tables filled so did the room, not only with officers but also with hugs, handshakes and laughter. WLA focused on leading with courage, creating an impactful act on someone or something.
