HOSA–Future Health Professionals continues to support and grow our successful partnership with Project Lead The Way (PLTW). HOSA is a student-led member organization providing opportunities for members to develop, practice and refine their academic, technical, leadership, and teamwork skills to achieve a seamless transition from education to health professions. In 2016-2017, membership reached 217,902 in 4,685 chapters, in 54 chartered/state associations, including American Samoa, Canada, the District of Columbia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Italy. Membership is 49% minority. Since 1976, HOSA has served 2.6 million students interested in pursuing careers in the health professions.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students and teachers across the U.S. PLTW empowers students to develop in-demand, transportable knowledge and skills through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science. PLTW students engage in hands-on activities, projects, and problems that are reflective of real-world challenges. This compelling approach empowers students to learn essential, in-demand skills validated by the world’s leading companies, while also providing an invaluable connection between what students are learning in the classroom today and how it applies to the paths they’ll take in the future.

The goal of the HOSA-PLTW partnership is to enhance education and opportunities for PLTW biomedical science pathway students and HOSA members. PLTW and HOSA are working collaboratively to exchange relevant program information and to highlight the HOSA Competitive Events Program that includes 60 HOSA competitive events; many that align with biomedical and STEM lessons and activities. Teacher resources are available to support PLTW curriculum goals and HOSA competition entries and for the development of future leaders.

PLTW's curriculum was collaboratively developed and is continually reviewed and improved by PLTW staff, teachers, university educators, industry experts, and school administrators to promote critical thinking, creativity, innovation and real-world problem solving skills in students. The hands-on, project-based program engages students on multiple levels, exposes them to areas of study that they typically do not pursue, and provides them with a foundation and proven path to college and career success.
