NLC 2013 Keynote Speaker

It is with great honor and pleasure that we announce and welcome Dr. Ben Carson as our keynote speaker for NLC 2013: Build a Better You! in Nashville, Tennessee! Coming from a challenging childhood of difficulty in school, a hot temper, a socioeconomic disadvantage and a single parent household, Ben Carson overcame all odds to become one of the most successful men in America. Dr. Carson is a world renowned neurosurgeon famous for his work with extremely difficult and unique surgical cases. In addition to his accomplishments in medicine he is a successful author, public speaker, board member of various organizations, and has been recognized for his work in public policy.

Dr. Carson attended Yale University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He then went on to attend the University of Michigan Medical School before joining John Hopkins University for his residency in neurosurgery. As a neurosurgeon he performed the first and only successful separation of Siamese twins joined together at the back of the head, the first completely successful separation of type-2 vertical craniopagus twins in South Africa, and the first successful placement of an intrauterine shunt for a hydrocephalic twin. He has been awarded over 60 honorary degrees and countless awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation’s highest civilian honor.

Dr. Carson strongly advocates for both healthcare and education in his work. Of his five highly successful books, his memoir, Gifted Hands, has been featured as a book for the medical reading competitive event and has been turned into a feature film!
