Thursday morning got off to an early start with breakfast for the voting delegates and national officer candidates. The candidates were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and answer questions from the voting delegates.

HOSA members started their morning with aerobic exercise and yoga at the Healthy Start to the Day. A second Newcomers Coffee Talk was held providing local advisors an opportunity to visit with National HOSA staff and gain insight into the organization and conference activities.

Over 50 competitive events occurred throughout the day. Individual competitors began their day with orientation and written tests while team competitors eagerly gathered around HOSA bulletin boards or checked Facebook and Twitter to see if they would advance to round two.

Over 200 volunteers arrived during the day to judge various competitions.  HOSA is extremely thankful to the judges who shared their time with us today.

HOSA was proud to offer 24 Educational Symposiums on Thursday. Educational Symposiums further classroom education for both HOSA members and advisors and serve as great tools to learn about real world issues from healthcare professionals. Examples of Thursday's Educational Symposiums included Anatomy in Clay, Partnering for Success with the Medical Reserve Corps, Exploring Public Health and Training Opportunities, Effective Communication Techniques, Hands on Body Systems and Careers in Health Care with CVS Caremark.

Local chapter leaders sharpened their leadership skills at HOSA Leadership University 201 while HOSA members focused on basic leadership principles at HOSA Leadership University 101.

HOSA members had the opportunity to display this year's accomplishments at the HOSA Showcase featuring HOSA Week applications, chapter newsletters, MRC partnerships, career heath career displays, extemporaneous health posters, clinical specialty and community awareness portfolios and Outstanding HOSA Chapter scrapbooks.

Voting delegates, national officer candidates and HOSA members met for the business session. The session gave national officer candidates an opportunity to speak before the final votes were cast. Voting delegates also voted on a new national service project.

Thursday was a long but exhilarating day of competition for many yet the HOSA spirit remained strong as delegates met new friends and enjoyed Orlando!

Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for additional daily updates during the conference.
